Any adverse consequences from the late spring frost in ’07 were offset by excellent weather during flowering which ensured “average” crop levels for the ‘08 harvest. The weather through most of this season was pleasurable for us and excellent for our crop – a welcome change from the wide ranging conditions and crop levels we have experienced over the last few years. Our vines coped well with a record-breaking drought which extended into autumn, there was little disease pressure, veraison (change of colour) was early and harvest commenced with Pinot noir at the early date of 19 March. There was some rain during the latter part of harvest but not enough to impact on concentration or phenolic ripeness in any of the varieties. This was a vintage which favoured ripe phenolics and therefore accessible and attractive young wines at release.
